More pictures. Are you sick of these yet?!

So, here is the wood cook stove that I was doing all of the cooking/baking on. The one that set my thighs on fire!
But here is the gas stove (run on propane) that I now have the pleasure of using, for most of the cookin! I guess I nagged Andrew enough that he decided the only way to shut me up was to fix it! :) See, naggin DOES work!! :) No but really, thanks to Andrew I can now start cooking the meals without waiting for him to start a fire. Because if there's one thing I've learned from this trip, so far, is that I stink like none other at starting fires!! I never knew it was so hard but I can't even set the trash in the trash barrel on fire! For crying out loud! I'm blaming it on all the rain we've been getting and therefore all the damp wood and trash. Yup, that's what it is. :)
Here's a picture of the whole kitchen. What you can't see is to the left is a little bit of space and then a wood box in the corner. And then to the right is a fridge. Behind this highchair is the living room. This is where you'll find me most hours of the day- especially when the housekeeper, Zonida isn't here.
Again, I'm trying to be a bit more creative at my self-portraits but I'm not so sure about it. Hmm.....
Lovely picture, hey? :) I find this everywhere when we walk to the river. It's poo of some kind and when I described it to Andrew he said it's horse manure but I'm not so sure. He hasn't seen this picture and I've never seen horse poo like this. Looks more like a deer or something. But then again, if one of us is an expert on poo, it must be Andrew! :)

Nice pics. Looks like horse dung to me too but I'm no expert. Deer droppings are more like pellets.

Boy, that's quality info for a blog. lol

How did you end up going there? What do the people you are staying with/working for do?

Yeah that's my kind of quality! :) Well the Bornman's are from my home church in Indiana but they have moved here to be missionaries to the Tarahumara Indians (natives to this area of Mexico). They have been here several years. The mom, Iris, is pregnant with her 4th child and is having complications so she is supposed to be on bed rest (basically) so I'm here to help with normal daily stuff until she has the baby. I'll actually be here for 2 weeks once the baby is delivered. The doctor is delivering the baby on Sept. 17th (I think) so that she doesn't even go into any labor. So that's me in Mexico in a nutshell. :)

So, MVZ tell me a little more about yourself and your family. :)

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Been sick and very busy.

I was born and raised in Holland, the Netherlands). Came to Texas, the US at the ripe old age of 16. Married a cute little Texas girl. We have 2 sons, now 16 and 20. Live in Seminole, Texas.
After farming for a few years I went broke and now work on a large cotton and peanut farm.

Sweet! Not that you were sick, sorry to hear that....we must have both been sick at the same time. What'd you have? I hope you're feeling better now (I looked at the other comment thingy before this one....).

So, Holland, hey? Nice! So do you have an accent still or have the many years in Texas given you a southern drawl? :) So you farmed your own farm for a while? What kind of farm? And now you work on a cotton and peanut farm?! Sounds kinda cool and interesting! :) Way different than any farms we have in Indiana....only boring stuff like corn and soybeans. :) So tell me more.....this is fun. :)

*after thought to mvz*

Do you know the old Alan Jackson song "Seminole Wind"? :) hehe! Just everytime I hear that name it reminds me of it! ha! :)

That's a John Anderson song isn't it? And yes, I know it well. Both the song and the wind! Wind blows here a lot.

I was sick with what we call "the crud". Pretty much anything around here is called crud. lol.
Had diarhee (sp?) More quality blog info. lol
Still not 100% over it yet. Can't eat my favorite foods (spicy) yet or very much of anything.

I still have an accent when I get nervous. Most of the time pretty much sound like a Texan or so I'm told.

Some of my pictures here:

http://ImageEvent.com/texasdutchman

I raised gladiola flowers just like they do in Holland. Both for bulbs and the fresh cut market.
No tulips though, it's too hot here in Texas to raise them commercially.

So they call that kind of sickness "crud"? Ha! That's hilarious! So you like the spicy foods, hey? Me too and I too have been staying away from them.(most food in general actually) :) Your accent comes out when you're nervous? lol! So if I want to hear your accent I need to make you nervous! Does your wife have such a thick thick accent? She lived in Texas all her life?

Texas songs that come to mind:

"All My Ex's Live in Texas"

"God Blessed Texas"

"My Little Texas Tornado"

Hmmm, I know there's more but can't think! :) I grew up on country and even though I try to not listen to it, too much anymore, it's still in my blood! I may be from Indiana but I'm a "country girl"! :) What music do you enjoy most?

You still raise gladiolas? And sell em,hey? I should stop by on my way home (when I fly through Houston) and get some for my Mom and Grandma! Ha! But then again that'll be October 1st, maybe not the season? I'm no flower expert at all but I'm sure it's in me, somewhere cause my Grandma and Mom do great at growing them!!! I looked at some of your pics but didn't see any pics of the flowers. Are there some in there and I just need to look better? :)

How close is Houston to Seminole? I'm not big on geography either! ha!

No I don't raise flowers anymore. I leave that to Katy, my wife for the flowerbeds.

Houston is about 9 hrs driving from Seminole.

No, there are no pictures of flowers on there. Sorry.
When I was dating Katy, I would take her flowers every time I went to her house. Haven't took her flowers in over a year. Shame on me.
Love the pictures you've been taking. I'm going to show Jim your blog to see if he might know the people you are staying with. He goes to San Juanito several times a year on mission trips.

Sorry to read you are still not 100% well. I made the mistake of eating spicy home made nachos with hot cheese last night for supper. I've been regretting it all day today.

Yes, shame on you! :) No, not really, but now that you realize your blunder, I think you know what you need to do! Bring that lady some flowers, just because!!! (and call her your little texas tornado!) lol! :)

I'm glad you like the pictures I'm taking and what's Jim's last name? I can ask Andrew and Iris if they know him, as well. San Juanito is small enough that it's a pretty good bet that they do! :)

Sorry about your nacho incident! I did that same thing (with tacos) several days ago and since then I've steered far away from any and all things "rich" or spicy! :) Hope you're feeling better today, though!

His name is Jim Shibley. He always takes seed and fertilizer down there.

Today we went to Post, Texas where our youngest was shooting trap in the Garza County 4-H trap shoot.
He shot a 95 out of a 100 and came in 5th.
When we got home our oldest went back to college. He's been working with me all summer.
Will sure miss him even though he is only 100 miles away and will be home next weekend.

Oh yeah, feeling fine today thank you.
There is hot cheese and taco meat left so I may sneak a bite or two from Andrew as that is what he is eating for supper. I just can't resist! lol

Take care.
